EYE TEST CONFESSIONS: WHAT YOUR OPTICIAN WANTS YOU TO ADMIT
Honesty, please: Your eyes tell us when you're lying
We get it – sitting in the optician’s chair can feel oddly high stakes. You’re suddenly not sure what letters are. Or whether you’re seeing clearly. Or if the ‘Better or worse?’ game is some kind of psychological test.
But here’s the thing: your optician isn’t judging you. They just want your eyes to be healthy and properly supported. And while they’ve heard everything before, there are a few little fibs and half-truths they wish we’d all just... admit.
So for the sake of better vision and smoother eye tests, shall we all just say what we’re thinking?.
1. “I wear my glasses all the time.” (You definitely don’t.)
Opticians can tell, truly. If your glasses are scratched, loose or smell faintly musty, the chances are they’re not in regular rotation. And that’s okay! Just be honest. It helps your optician figure out what kind of lenses and frames will actually work for your lifestyle.
✨ bloobloom tip: If you only wear glasses for certain tasks, such as reading, driving or looking clever on Zoom calls, say so. Then we can tailor your lenses accordingly.
2. “I clean my lenses properly.” (Not with your shirt you don’t.)
Listen, we’ve all been there: desperate to de-smudge mid-commute, reaching for the nearest sleeve or shirt front. But please know that your optician sees the micro-scratches. Every. Single. One.
✨ bloobloom tip: Use a microfibre cloth – we include one with every case. Not only will your vision be clearer, your lenses will last longer. Win-win.
3. “I take my contacts out every night.” (You fell asleep in them again, didn’t you?)
We’re not angry, just disappointed. Okay, not even that – just gently concerned. Sleeping in contacts deprives your corneas of oxygen and increases the risk of infection. So unless they’re specially approved for overnight wear, take them out before bed. Merci.
✨ bloobloom tip: Even if you mostly wear contacts, it’s important to keep your glasses prescription up to date. Your eyes deserve a backup plan.
4. “My screen time? Oh, a couple of hours a day.” (Let’s try 10.)
You don’t have to impress us with your digital discipline – just be real. The more time you spend on screens, the more likely you are to benefit from blue light filtering or anti-fatigue lenses.
✨ bloobloom tip: Our lenses come with optional blue light filters and always include anti-reflective coatings. Très helpful for WFH marathons.
5. “I’m not having any vision problems.” (But also: “My eyes feel weird sometimes.”)
This is the big one. Many people brush off eye strain, blurriness, dry eyes or double vision as ‘just tiredness’. But even small symptoms can signal that something’s off with your prescription or eye health.
✨ bloobloom tip: Be honest about how your eyes feel, even if your vision seems fine. It can help us catch changes early and tailor the best solution for you.
6. “Yes, I understood everything you just said.” (Did you though?)
Optical terms can feel like a foreign language. Axis? Prism? Cylinder? It’s okay to ask your optician to go through things again, or to explain it like you’re five. It’s not a test and you won’t get detention.
✨ bloobloom tip: We love questions. The more you understand your prescription, the more able you are to make the right choices. Knowledge means clear vision (and better eyewear shopping).
Final Word: It’s not a judgement zone, it’s a vision partnership
Your optician isn’t here to scold and guilt-trip you, or deduct points for lens neglect. They just want your eyes to be happy, and for you to walk away seeing the world in full, glorious HD.
At bloobloom, we believe in eyecare that feels honest, helpful and human. The next time you’re in the chair, take a deep breath and admit to the smudgy sins. You’re in very good hands.
